Comparision between blind flange and pipe cap
What is blind flange?Blind is also called flange cover, and some are also called blind flange or pipe plug. It is a flange without holes in the middle and is used to seal the pipe mouth. The functionissame as the pipe cap, but the blind seal is a detachable sealing device, and the seal of pipe cap is not ready to open again. There are many types of sealing surface, such as flat face, raised face, male and female, tongue and groove surface and ring joint surface. Materials include carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, etc.
The production processing of blind flange.
Generally there are four types of production processing: forging, steel plate cutting and casting. Among them, forging products have the highest price, followed by steel plate, and casting products have the lowest price. And casting is the worst technology. The quality of forging and steel plate is good, casting is slightly worse.
The material of bind flange.
Here by we only to talk steel blind which is usually used for oil& gas transportation, petroleum, chemical industry, shipbuilding, power plant etc. These steel blind flange are commonly made of carbon steel, stainless steel and alloy steel.
Carbon steel refers to ASTM A105, A694 F42, F50, F52, A350 LF2 etc.
Stainless steel refers to A182 F304/316, A182 F304L/316L etc.
Alloy steel refers to A182 F5, F9, F12 etc.
What is pipe cap?
The pipe cap is one kind of pipe fitting also known as pipe end cover, plug, cap, pipe cap, stuffy head, is welded at the pipe end or fitted on the external thread of the pipe end to cover the pipe. It is used to close the pipeline and has the same functionasblind flange. The difference is just blind flange dismountable.
The types of pipe cap.
The types of pipe cap include hemispherical cap, elliptical cap, dishcapand spherical cap. The hemispherical cap has the best performance of stress and spherical cap is the worst. However, the production processing of spherical cap is the easiest and hemispherical cap is the most complicated.
Thecomparision between blind flange and pipe cap.
The same points be tweenblind flange and pipe cap, their function is same. They all play the function to seal pipes at the pipe end.
The difference be tween blind flange and pipe cap.
1.The production processing is different, blind flange is forged, steel plate cutting or casting. Pipe cap is produced by hot forming of steel plate.
2.The cost if different. The costof blind flange is higher than pipe cap.
3.The method of application is different. Blind flange is fixed by stub bolt match up gasket according to different sealing face. And it is dismountable easily to be repaired when pipe lines damaged. Pipe cap is welded which can’t be removable.
Insummery, blind flange has special advantages in application but the cost is high, pipe cap has low cost but the application is not convenient compare with blind.
