Seamless steel pipes are rolled into round steel from steel ingots, which are hot-pierced to obtain tube blanks (capillary tubes), and then hot-rolled, cold-rolled or cold-drawn into seamless pipes.
From zero to number one in the world, China's arduous development of seamless steel pipes
Seamless steel pipes are known as the "vessels" of industry and are important raw materials for national industrial construction and national defense construction, whether they are manufacturing airplanes, ships, trains, automobiles, boilers, power stations, oil, steam, water, or development Geological drilling of mineral deposits requires it everywhere, and it is inseparable from it. It can be said that if we leave seamless steel pipes, many industries such as petroleum, chemical, steel, machinery, military, aerospace and other industries will be out of the question.
In the early days of the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949, my country could not produce seamless steel pipes. At that time, there was only Shanghai with a little steel pipe reforming equipment, but due to lack of thermal perforation machinery, it was not possible to use round steel to produce seamless steel pipes, and it was impossible to import capillary pipes from abroad. Only imported or used old seamless steel pipes could be restructured into other specifications. Seamless steel pipe. (Note: Although before the founding of New China, the Japanese invaders built a set of hot-rolled seamless steel pipe lines with a diameter of 70-150mm in Anshan in the northeast in 1935, but after the surrender of Japan in 1945, all its equipment All were dismantled and transported by the Soviet Union to the Ural No. 1 Steel Pipe Plant in the former Soviet Union and now Ukraine. Therefore, when the People’s Republic of China was founded, our country could not produce seamless steel pipes)
After the founding of New China, with the implementation of the first five-year plan for the restoration of the economy and the national economy in three years, my country's economy will embark on the road to industrialization. Due to the economic blockade and embargo imposed on New China by Western hostile countries, the source of seamless steel pipes imported from abroad was interrupted, and domestic production was not possible at that time. This had a serious impact on economic recovery and the defense industry.
On December 26, 1953, at the Anshan-Anshan Iron and Steel Seamless Steel Tube Plant in northern my country, almost all the workers came to the factory ahead of schedule, nervous and excited. On this day, China's metallurgical history will open a new page. At 2:30 in the afternoon, the workers on the console were all in their positions. An ingot of red steel billet rolls out of the high-temperature heating furnace and drills through the piercing machine. When the fiery red steel pipe head was slowly exposed, everyone present cheered for joy, and New China's first seamless steel pipe was born.
The original design and production specifications of Angang's seamless steel pipe plant were Φ57-140mm, wall thickness 4-20mm, and length 4-12m; the designed output was 61,900 tons/year, and three years after it was put into operation (66,000 tons were produced in 1956), it exceeded the design by 7% Reach production.
The commissioning of Angang's seamless steel pipe plant put an end to my country's history of not being able to produce seamless steel pipes. It only took 1 year and 3 months from the ground breaking of the factory to the first seamless steel pipe. In the second year (1954) after it was put into production, the boiler tubes, geological tubes, oil tubes and stainless steel tubes were rolled out successively. The successful piercing and rolling of stainless steel pipes on the two-roll cross-rolling piercer is a major event in the history of seamless steel pipe production in my country, which has played a leading role in the future production of stainless steel pipes in my country.
